Questions About Ketosis

Hi,

I've been on a low carb diet since 2016 when I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. I've never taken any medication and my blood sugar levels are normal and so is my kidney function according to recent blood and urine tests.

However, 5 months ago I developed severe insomnia and excessive urination that I still have. I thought that maybe I wasn't eating enough carbs so I increased my carbs and bought a ketone blood meter.

I now eat well over 60 grams of net carbs per day but my keto blood meter indicates that I'm always at 0.5mmol of ketones which means that I'm still in nutritional ketosis. I want to get out of ketosis to see if this will improve my sleep and stop the frequent urination.

Is it normal that I'm still producing ketones even though I eat 60-90 grams of net carbs per day?

Thanks.

Yes, some sources recommend at least 150 grams of carbs per day to avoid Ketosis. Everyone is different so it depends on your individual fuel requirement. Just make sure the carbs are complex and not highly refined.

Get a healthy variety from non-sweet fresh fruit and intact whole grains.
