How is Pineapple a negative calorie food? It has so much sugar. If it really is a negative calorie food, does this mean that the more I eat, the more calories I burn in relation to consuming?
Thanks

Re: Pineapple Negative Calorie?
I have never heard of pineapple being a negative calorie food. The only true negative calorie food is celery (you burn more energy digesting it then it contains). Grapefruit is another food that is supposedly a negative calorie food but that is debatable- there have been recent studies that prove that eating half a grapefruit/day (and not changing anything else in your life) will help you to lose 2-3 extra pounds in a period of time (i forget the period of time..a month seems right). But pineapple Ive never ever heard of as being one of these foods.

Re: Pineapple Negative Calorie?
they are called negative calories because the amount of calories your body burns chewing the food is greater than the amount of calories actually in the food....i can't really see fruits as negative calories because they have so many sugars and carbs, but many vegetables have negative calories....

Re: Pineapple Negative Calorie?
then why are they listed as negative calories? such as apples.. they say an apple contains approx. 80 calories and by the burning process during digestion there is 100 cal burned.

Maybe because it takes so much work to cut them up.

I think crossbow meant cutting them up manually, like with a knife. Apples arent negative calories though, from anything Ive ever heard/read.

They are "listed as negative calories" where? I can't think of any legitimate source for this "information."
There isn't even any agreement that there really ARE such things as negative calorie foods to begin with, and those that haye been hypothesized are celery, as noted above, spinach and similar greens. Nothing with sugars like the fruit you mention.
What "list" is this?

I have this urge to email the guy and ask where he actually got this source...
All the foods on that list seem healthy, but they are a very mixed bag of high-sugar and high calorie foods and low sugar, low calorie items.
Weird. I think the guy just made it all up.

Re: Pineapple Negative Calorie?
All I know is that when I eat apples, I end up hungrier than I was before I ate, so I am inclined to believe they have negative calories.
They do have a lot of sugar, but they also have a lot of fiber, and fiber takes a lot of energy to digest. Actually, you can't technically "digest" it.

Re: Pineapple Negative Calorie?
no the guy didn't make it up. it's from the official Negative Calorie Diet book, but maybe the writer of this book made it up. it's full with a lot of things controverse to a lot of the stuff people learn me here. and it also says if you breathe deep and long you get in more oxygen which causes your metabolism to speed up so you burn more fat. im not sure about this. well it's just got so many things in it and he doesn't really back them up. he just says it's like this cause i say so.
