Green tea is high in fluoride. Fluoride competes with iodine for receptor sites in your thyroid gland - fluoride usually wins since it is more reactive than iodine. Your thyroid requires iodine to manufacture thyroid hormones (T4, T3, T2, T1, etc.). So, in theory, drinking green tea can lower your thyroid hormones which would further slow down your metabolism, which is not what you want to do.

Have you had your Free T4 and Free T3 levels checked recently to see if you are on the correct dose of thyroid replacement? Questions regarding thyroid issues generally get more responses in the Thyroid forum - lots of knowledgable folks there.

Hi, I also take synthroid, but I also drink green tea. I've been drinking green tea now for about two yrs. I also am diabetic. I mentioned to my endo and my dietician that I enjoy several cups of green tea, and at no time did either say to me what you put in your post. When I go to my dr appt tomorrow, I will inquire about the flouride in green tea. I hope you're wrong because I realllllly like green tea alot.
