Sucralose???

About a month ago I started using a diet soda containing sucralose. Within a week I developed leg aches. The leg aches became pain and weakness. I also became slightly nauseous and had a mild headache. My appetite diminished and I have lost 5 pounds, (Iím not complaining about the weight loss). I stopped using the product two days ago and the leg pain is beginning to subside. Iím not sure if this is just coincidence or a reaction to the sucralose.
Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Sucralose???

With all the artificial sweeteners (as with so many products), there are some people who seem to have reactions. I have heard others complain about sucralose, too, so you're not alone.

Is splenda a sucralose? What is it?

is it possible to eat too much splenda (aka. sucralose). and does it really have 0 calories if you eat like 3 cups of the stuff?

Re: Sucralose???

splenda is made from regular sugar. Its somehow chemically changed so that your body does not recognize it as sugar.

I use tons of it and drink diet rite cola which has it too. I've never had a reaction to it....but I HAVE had bad reactions to aspartame so its certainly possible that the Splenda could be bothering you...though they say aspartame is really bad stuff because of what it becomes inside your body.

I have no trouble with cyclamate or with aspartame but too much sucralose makes me a bit queasy and gives me a headache.
Saccharine is just plain nauseating.

Re: Sucralose???

Everyone reacts differently to different sugar substitutes. There are carbs in Splenda, 2 carbs per packet.

I loved Splenda, but I had to give it up because (and I was drinking it all day long in my tea) I couldn't stop coughing.

When I quit the Splenda, I stopped coughing. I can have a glass once in awhile without any problems.

Re: Sucralose???

efflexor,

It's 2 CALORIES per packet of sucralose from the dextrose added to give it volume...that's 1/2 gram carb per packet. The sucralose itself has zero calories and 0.0 grams carbs.
I really think Splenda's side effects adversely affect MORE people than its competitors (in spite of all the advertising hype.) Just a personal observation.
