How do you know if a study that says it is bad or good is not Biased? All Studies have to be paid for...so who pays for them? The Milk Companies will want a study that says it is good and safe, and the Organic/Soy companies want a study that will say it bad and not safe. Then there are the "Scientists" that may have a biased when doing the study. If a Scientist can prove that something that everyone thinks is good and safe is not...then they can become famous. So...who do we believe?

Any Food can have Bad Effects on some people. Usually these effects are Visual and are easy to spot. But if they are Internal and not easily seen then it can be almost impossible to know if it is causing harm.
Very true. And, IMHO, with all the psychoactive prescription drugs, booze, cigarettes, illegal drugs, hooka and junk food people injest, it seems to me milk is the least of our problems, doesn't it?

Of course, if someone is allergic or lactose intolerant then of course they should find other healthy alternatives.

WOW that's a lot of posts to read!! I do drink some low fat milk but have not the last few days because of a sinus problem and thought the milk may be the problem and it seems to have improved so I may just leave it alone. This may sound bizarre but I have been wondering, we have heard in the news of some cows have been discovered to have Mad Cow Disease and though they have reassured us that they never made it to the slaughter houses and so the meat is safe, since it is a disease that takes a while to manifest itself what happens if the cow infected is a dairy animal. Is the milk infected also. We have read that when England had mad cow that cooking the meat did not make it safe to eat so with that in mind would pasteurization even make the milk safe. Does anyone know? One other thing that I didn't like was they add dried milk to the low fat milk so it won't look so blue and more people will drink it, I really hate it when I read things like that.

I've read countless times that milk was found to not carry any of the infectious prions even in the infected cows that were tested, so it seems it's mainly contracted by eating beef of an infected cow but don't worry; mad cow is not a threat in the US now because of the regulations so beef is ok too here in US.

Low fat milk does have non-fat dried milk added. I personally don't see the harm in the extra 2% fat whole milk has over low fat; I mean, alot of foods have alot higher percentages of fat than 4%; some have high saturated fat like 20% and up! But low fat milk isn't so bad because you do save some fat, important if you drink alot.

Butter, cheese, ice cream are worse than milk and low fat/light versions of them is more important because they do have alot. I would say moderation in dairy is important, especially those richer versions. Watch out for those hydrogenated oils too.....thank goodness they are starting to take the trans fat out of many enjoyable products like crackers, cereal and even cheetos That trans fat turned out to be the worst of all.

It does seem milk has many benefits from it's whey content, and whey powder just amps that up so I'll have mine too!
