    Thumbs up

It's really _really_ tough to lose fat and bulk up at the same time. The reason is this: to bulk you need to consume a lot of calories so that your muscles have a lot of fuel to stress and repair themselves. When toning down and trying to get cut, you need to drop the caloric intake and/or increase calorie burning. Your best bet would be to keep what you have for now and put building on hold (not necessarily lose mass). If you want to get more defined and keep the muscle you have, keep your current lifting regimen and just increase the cardio. You should be able to maintain lean muscle mass while dropping body fat (and make sure you are getting enough protein).

Define "fit" for me? I'm not sure I know what you mean.

If by "fit" you mean higher endurance for cardio, then you just need to make sure your replacing the calories you're burning with the cardio so your body doesn't start using muscle for energy. Sorry if I misunderstood.

yeah, i understand where you're coming from.. i'm trying to gain mass and keep myself in good respiratory shape for basketball. from what i've read (mostly, arnold's modern encyclopedia of bodybuilding - a fanfreakin'tastic book by the way) it's possible to do both. but it takes a lot of careful balancing and adjustment. just don't expect to develop the lungs of a long-distance runner or the physique of a bodybuilding champion while doing both. if bulking up is the top priority for you, but you still want to develop your cardio aspects a bit more - continue heavy weight training, add the cardio stuff you want (just don't go overboard with your training there - say, keep it in segments of 45 minutes a few times a week) and make sure you get enough calories to balance out the new excercise. bodybuilders do a lot of running and such to keep their bodies completely fit and are in a constant process of trying to add size. it's doable

Go for the bare minimum..........do 20 minutes of cardio 3-4 per week. Only excessive cardio will hinder your mass gains. 20 mins is good for cardio health........since you aren't worrying about reducing fat, no need to go more than that.

Also you can switch a week of circuit training, with a week of your standard workout for bulking.

    and eat, eat, eat!
