just wanted to ask if tofu is relatively low or high carbs?

It varies with the brand and also the type - you have to check the labels. Softer tofu tends to be higher in carbs than firmer. As I recall, some brands of the firmer stuff get down around 4 grams of carbs per serving, so would be okay on many low-carb plans.
Now whether eating soy is a good idea is another question. As is whether tofu can be considered "fermented" (or at least sufficiently processed to be acceptable).

White Wave tofu has 4 g carb and 6 g fat, 10% Calcium, 2g fiber, 8% iron, Protein 11 g, 110 calories.
