    Post Colonics and bloated stomach

    Hi,
I have heard many great things about colonics and need some info. I have had a problem with a distended, bloated stomach for quite some time and am thinking this may be the problem. I am not fat by any means and dont need to really loose weight (I am 5/5 115) but when I eat, even a little bit, I can look pregnant because my abdomen blows up! I am very toned but have this constant big bloated belly. I also hardly ever have bowel movements, only a couple of times a week. Do you think maybe this is what I need?

It might do the trick although first I would look into your diet. Are you are getting enough fiber and drinking enough water? Are their certain foods that make you bloated? Perhaps you could talk to a doctor about this to see what they have to say.

I have never had a colonic but want to get one soon. I know a few people who have had them and they like the fact that it cleanses the colon and rids it of the old 'poo'. The fact that you are irregular makes me think that perhaps you would benefit from this, but again, I'm not an expert so I'm not too sure.

Of course though, after having a colonic it would be good to continue (or start) eating healthy, making sure you eat lots of veggies, fruits, fiber, and drink lots of water.

    Hmm,
That is the weird part..I do eat healthy and drink tons of water. I work in Vegas outside at a pool cocktailing, and then work another job at night (so I get the exercise too) My daily routine is this...
Wake up and have a cereal bar or a banana. Go to my job at the pool. Eat a light lunch, like a salad, some chicken or some eggs for protein, fruit for dessert) I drink water all day. I go to my other job and eat there too, a light dinner of maybe pasta, soup, a banana or fruit for a snack...
Lately I wake up and am feeling so bloated and uncomfortable. I gained 4 lbs in the week and dont know why! (my stomach looks almost pregnant) I do want to go to a doctor for this, but dont have insurance. Could this be a health issue?

    Hi,

You would definitely benefit from a colonic or series of them, but as the other poster alluded to, you also have to do something to get your bowels under control, because the bloating and not going to the bathroom are both signs that your digestion and elimination are not working properly.

I would not recommend going to a medical doctor on this - they will only prescribe pills that will make it worse.

What I would do if I were you is:

    A) get the colonic and ask the colon hydrotherapist some advice on a good program for a deep colon cleansing. They usually have great advice. Then, ask them about your diet and what they think you should change to help you eliminate better.

    B) Next, and very important, get a good probiotic supplement to add beneficial bacteria to your colon. The best one I've ever tried is Primal Defense, I still take it. It is available easily at any Vitamin Shoppe or on the web.

Was just hopping by and saw your post.

Looks like you eat a lot of banannas. They can be quite constipating believe it or not. Might want to limit your intake.

    Just a suggestion

I agree with shannonkg – bananas can be very ‘binding’. You may want to try replacing the bananas in your diet with a different fruit. Also, your symptoms sound a bit like irritable bowel syndrome. I would suggest trying a fiber supplement like Metamucil. Start slowly with one serving a day and work up to three. Lots of water should also help.

I am sorry to butt in..I am not an expert but have read numerous articles that there are serious female related diseases in which one of the symptoms is a distended stomach...I certainly not tryng to scare anyone but even though you dont have insurance, I would suggest that you see a physician. I dont know how much colonics is, but i think it costs more than a dr visit. They usually discount for cash customers. Just a thought....Good luck

Diseases that have a distended stomach as one of the symptoms? All I know is that I dont go to the bathroom very often and if I do..it is a lot in one day. I am healthy, work out, and am toned except for my stomach area. (i do crunches too and weigh 114, 5,5) As soon as I eat anything or even drink a thing, I get all bloated and it embaressing for me to work at my one job and wear a midriff top. Sometimes I feel like I look like one of those poor Ethopian children with the big bellys and little bitty arms and legs. Maybe could it be that my stomach muscles are weak?

Hi courtneyclv!! Wow, I have the same problem!!! Except I'm able to go the bathroom regularly...but my stomach is poofy ALL the TIME, and has been for ONE MONTH. I exercise a lot, and I'm a raw vegan, so I just eat fruit and salad. I've tried fasting for a couple days, enemas, laxatives and nothing helps!! It totally looks like I'm pregnant and I'm not. It's VERY uncomfortable. I'm going to try acidophilus pills, exercise even more, and continue to not eat very much. But even if I just eat a couple plums it poofs up huge!! Please let me know if anything works for you!!!! Thanks!

    Hi fellow bloaty girls!

I can totally relate! I only weigh 100 lbs at 5'2
and on normal days I wear a size 2 or 4, on bloaty days I wear a size 6 or 8. Ughhhh!

I have the same issues and after a gazillion tests I was diagnosed with irritable bowel. A couple of things that helped me are taking a stool softener daily(docusate sodium - you can get it at Walmart or the drug store). Also, there is a new medication just for bloating but it is too expensive for me, but if you have a prescription plan you should look into it., it's called Zelnorm and it is supposed to work wonders for women with bloating in there digestive system.

Also, Metamucil and Cetrucil never works for me and made matters worse. Especially Metamucil, which can produce additional gas.

    Hope this helps.

i have the same problem too.
gosh, i'm glad someone posted because i had no idea that others suffered from it.

as for the colonic, my friend had one and she felt great afterwards. i chose to try to do things the natural way and it has been working. i eat 2 TB of ground up flax seeds in my cereal in the am. it took about a week to kick in, but it works great now.
you can get flax seeds from a grocery store/gnc.
you'll have to grind them up though. i use a coffee grinder.

I have been struggleling with the same problem all of you have decribed (bloated, pregnant looking stomach, usually a few minutes after eating even small amts of food-i'm 5 foot 10 and 120 ilbs). I knowticed these signs about 3 weeks after taking the Depo Provera shot. When I told my OBGYN he said the shot might have caused a "lazy stomach" or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). He suggested simply taking Metamucil before bed. This however hasn't worked yet, nor has all of the other things I heve tried (mineral oil, laxitives are short term, stool softeners). Its possible that the 2 weeks i have tried these things isn't enough time to let them fully work. Today I bought Flax seed, as recommended here. I am going to see my OBGYN again tomorrow.

You know,I'm no doctor, but I had 2 friends with the same symptoms and it turned out to be fibroids (benign tumors). They can grow very large, and put pressure on organs, making it very uncomfortable. While they are not "life threatening" they should be removed. An ultra sound will spot them. Find a doctor get a check up and ask him if it is something he will look into.
