    Raw oatmeal mixed with yogurt?

Ok so I just started this whole new way of eating The problem is I'm pressed enough for time in the morning without having to worry about cooking up some oatmeal. Would it be ok to just mix it in my yogurt/cottage cheese and eat it like that or is it necessary to cook it to get the benefits? Thanks.

Hi there, I don't think it matters how you consume the oatmeal (unless you're adding tons of butter and milk).

What kind of weight loss plan are you following? I'm doing Weight Watchers.

I have used the steel cut oats and mixed them in the past with yogurt and refrigerated the mixture overnight to be eaten the next morning. It is actually pretty tasty.

Mmm...I LOVE doing that! My favorite is the instant Quaker oatmeal packets, the Maple Brown Sugar kind, with apple cinnamon yogurt. It's also good - if you have time to cook the original flavored kind - to mix that with cottage cheese. Also helps cool it off.

That's perfectly fine and is actually a great snack/meal. Jogaholic, I agree with you about cooking the oatmeal with cottage cheese. It's the only way I can actually tolerate cottage cheese. However, be careful with those packets because they add a lot of sugar to them. Here's a little tip. Mix the packet in the bowl with your hand and you'll notice a lot of sugar coming up.

yeah, raw oatmeal with yogurt is delicious! if you have a little more time one morning, toss some diced fruit in. mmm . . . also, about the sugar thing that hitman said. Quaker now has a "lower sugar" version. Never tasted it myself, but i'm sure it's good, so i thought i'd let you know.

I really like raw 3-minute oatmeal! I also like yogurt, low-carb style. I never thought of mixing them together! Good suggestion! I'm going to try it!

I'm confused, are you just mixing a packet of instant oatmeal straight out of the packet without cooking it and mixing it in yougurt and eating it like that??

No worries Hitmen, definitely been stocking up on the lower sugar kind! It tastes just as good as the regular kind!
Jayepp - yup, just pour a packet of the instant kind, uncooked and any flavor really, into a container of yogurt and mix it up. MMmmm...it's good if you add some mandarin oranges or a sliced banana too!

Haha, okay. There are two different things people are talking about on this thread.
First, the raw, uncooked instant oatmeal packet with yogurt.
Then, yes, cooked plain flavored oatmeal (like the kind that comes in the big Quaker container) with like 1/4-1/2 cup cottage cheese.

I'm gonna have to give this new low sugar oatmeal a try. What do you think the best flavor is?
