It is an anti-inflammatory effect and can help relieve pain, swelling, and tenderness of injuries. I have not heard anything about burning fat. It is a digestive enzyme as well so maybe that is what you heard..Lisa

Bromelain from pineapples and papain from papaya are protein digesting enzymes. They are supposed to help people who have trouble digesting their food, primarily meat based food.
Like many supplements, they are sold with claims do do far more than they really do.

In any case there's little evidence to show bropmelain is an aid to fatburning.

I CAN recommend it for some stubborn protein stains on clothes...an enzymatic detergent!....Really!:D:D

We should perhaps think twice about putting any foreign enzymeatic protein dissolvers into our stomachs which are after all made mostly of protein! Our body makes it's own protein enzymes like pepsin and trypsin.

I have only read that it is great for the digestive tract and for gas, nothing about fat-burning. But incorporating it into one's diet can definitely aid in weight loss since it's fibrous and low in calories. My stomach always feels really good after I eat pineapple; I used to start my mornings with it. On an interesting note, it made my urine smell like tropical fruit!
