How do you make salmon steak taste good?

I'm trying to incorporate fish into my diet - esp. salmon - but don't know how to cook it. What should I do with the salmon steaks I just bought?

    I cook salmon this way:

I take lemon juice, about 1/4-1/2 c. and add 3 tbs of brown sugar and dissolve the two together. I marinate the salmon in that for about 20 minutes. Then, just cook the salmon, and I usually take the skin off and cook the other side and I crush up 3-4 pecans or walnuts and bake it one top of the fish-sprinkle with a little more brown sugar if desired.

I mix 3tbs soya sause, 2 tbs brown sugar and 2 cloves of garlic and fresh ground pepper together and put the salmon in for at least 10min sometimes an hour or so then bake it on a broil pan or cookie sheet lined with foil for about 25 -30min depending on size at 350. Very yummy

    Oops,

    Too late I guess.

My fave is to use cajun spice or just plenty of cayenne...
If youu sdon;t care for that spicy, shake on Seafood Seasoning (from the $Dollar Store)
Sear the fish in about a TBSP of butter and a Tbsp of your favorite high temp oil (canola, peanut, corn.) Soy and olive don't taste right.

Do both sides on high heat in a teflon pan til slightly blackened and fish is ALMOST threatening to flake (5 minutes per side?). If you like it rarer (some people do) go less time.
More time if very thick steaks.

    Quick and easy!

Salmon is our favorite in this house! My method is super simple. I rub a small amount of oil on both sides, then sprinkle a little Old Bay on both sides. That's all I use. I put it in either a shallow baking pan or use foil and put it on the grill. If I use the grill, I put some mesquite chips that have been soaked in water, in another peice of foil and pop that in the grill too. If you don't have a grill, you can use your broiler, or better yet, just put it in a non stick pan and cook it on the stove using high heat. Squeeze on some lemon when you serve it and it's positively mouth watering.

hey another recommendation is to look up recipes for stuff you don't ordinarily cook online. there are some GREAT recipe websites out there and many post reviews from other cooks (so you can actually know if its good!), nutrition facts, servings, etc. i LOVE allrecipes.com, which has TONS of excellent recipes and all that stuff i listed above. just a suggestion, cuz that's what i do when i'm trying to cook something "new!"

I grill salmon. You need make sure it has the skin on one side that way it holds together on the grill. Also rub canola or another healthy oil on the salmon and the grill so it doesn't stick. I notice salmon tastes fishy to me. I am sure fresh salmon from the ocean is not fishy tasting but I can't get that so I have to buy it at the grocery store. Grilling it covers up that fishy taste. I put canola oil, dill, lemon juice, red pepper on it before grilling and it tastes great. If you let it sit on that for a half hour the flavor gets stronger of the seasonings.

    Hi,
I have 3 different salmon dinners for you

    1) I add a little honey, ginger little salt and sesame seeds, and bake the salmon filet in the oven medium rare.

    2) Put Olive oil in a pan, make 1/2 inch slices, brown 1 minute on each side with some onions, make some whole wheat spaghetti, add a little greek yoghurt, pepper and mix in the salmon - yummy!.

    3) Or try salmon in a pouch! You'll find good recepes on the TV food channel's website.

    good luck
    elke (:

How about just broiling it and eating it plain? No good?

I grill Salmon with a little oil (EVOO or Rice Bran Oil), lemon, horseradish and breadcrumbs.

The grilling marinates it all together for a great flavor.

I grill it. Instead of keeping the skin on, I use a grilling cage. I always marinade it in a bit of real maple syrup or lemeon juice with some dill or spices first.

Re: How do you make salmon steak taste good?

Salmon is such a greasy fish, that I would never add any oil to it. If you're going for an asian dish (like having this accompany rice and a veggie stir fry), I would poach it in water or broth seasoned with a liberal helping of soy sauce, fresh minced ginger and garlic. If you want something more American/French (could go with say potatoes, corn, asapargus) try poaching the salmon steaks in white wine (cooking wine) and garlic with some water to cut the intense wine flavor. Salmon is also excellent grilled, which other posters mentioned, but that's not always an option depending on where you live and what time of year it is. Above anything else, I would never fry salmon. Have fun!
