Special Diet after a reversal colostomy

My father, age 83, had a reversal done about a year ago. He still suffering from very frequent bowel movements which irritates his 'bottom' along w/ insecurities about leaving apartment for any length of time (due to frequent bms and odors).

I've been trying to find out if there is something he should be eating / or should be staying away from to help him out.

He has a prescription to help firm his stools - but the doctor doesn't want to make anymore changes to it.

As a side note, his colon is VERY SHORT - almost a direct route to his rectum.

If anyone can direct me to a reference point OR give me any words of advice that I can pass on to him, it would be greatly appreciated.
