Food Additives in Campbell and Prego Hello all, I have been reading the book 'Fast Food Nation' and its quite interesting especially about food additives in fast food making them taste good. I wonder if food additives are put in Campbell Chicken and Golden Corn Soup and in Prego Spaghetti sauce? I live in South East Asia and here on those things they put a localised sticker on the nutritional info so I can't see the label with that info on it. Anyone know about this? Thanks. |
Re: Food Additives in Campbell and Prego You can go to the companies wed site and find the nutritional contact of their products. It is located under nutrition and wellness tab at the campbells website. |
Re: Food Additives in Campbell and Prego thanks i did that now and i got the info on the chicken soup although the golden corn soup and prego sauce info isnt on there. thanks for pointing me there though at least it seems like there are no food taste additives. the sodium content is a bit high on the chicken soup. |
Re: Food Additives in Campbell and Prego Don't know if its available to you, but Health Valley makes wonderful organic canned soups without all the additives. |

Re: Food Additives in Campbell and Prego I just wanted to point out that many canned soups like Progresso contain MSG, I just learned that last week, I don't know about Campbells and Prego. Another problem besides additives are the genetically modified foods (GMO's) in the U.S., the largest percentage of modification is in soy, corn, canola oil, and cotton. About 70% of the foods in the supermarket contain GMO's. Products with corn starch, soy lecithin, soybean oil, cottonseed oil, and many other derivatives of the four should be avoided. Foods containing GMO's are banned in Europe, I don't know about Thailand. Foods with the organic label are not allowed to contain GMO's. Trader Joe's and Whole Foods brands do not contain GMO's. BTW, I had Healthy Choice Minestrone Soup for lunch, I used half the can and added water, kale, and white beans, it cuts down on the expense to save the other half for another time. It is really terrible that some restaurants in New York are switching from using trans-fats (forced to switch by NY state) to soybean oil, they are switching an unhealthy fat for a genectically modified fat that is also unhealthy! Everyone should buy healthy foods and eat at home! |
Re: Food Additives in Campbell and Prego good idea about using water with the health valley minestrone soup and adding beans etc, thanks for that, will do that too. i have tried my best to avoid fast food and have increased exercise for a month now right after reading fast food nation and now i'm reading 'healthy at 100' by john robbins and my waist size has decreased somewhat :) |
Re: Food Additives in Campbell and Prego Good for you, I hope you continue to lose weight. I'm glad you found my tip about eating half the soup helpful, I try to pick up extra cans when they are on sale, Healthy Choice Low Sodium Soup is the only brand I will buy. |
