longevity of flax seeds stored in freezer

I stumbled across a bag of organic flax seeds in the freezer that I had purchased maybe 2 or 3 years ago. They still smell and taste okay but I wonder if they are still good to use. What do you think?

I don't know... I'd probably just toss them and buy some more. They're not very expensive.

I keep whole flax seeds in my fridge, and grind them in small batches in my coffee bean grinder when I want to sprinkle ground flax on something (it's really good on oatmeal).

But I have noticed that they start to have an "off" taste once they've been in the fridge a few months. Not like they're rotten, exactly, but just sort of stale.
So if I don't eat them all in a month or two, I usually replace them, and that's what I'd advise you to do.

Yes, I would throw them out. They can go rancid after a while- even in the fridge or freezer & then their health benefits are diminished!
