A protein shake is fantastic after a workout because your body is in need of protein ASAP. However it makes a fantastic meal replacement as well. I wouldn't use it as a snack, because while the protein powder itself is usually only around 120 calories the fruit and other ingredients can boost it up pretty quickly. However the protein and fiber from the fruit make it extremely filling, and a great healhy meal choice. If you haven't selected a protein powder I highly suggest a Whey protein. It is extremely high quality and acts as an anti-oxidant as well.
