Unhappy Unexplained bloating - please help!!

    Hello all,

For the past couple months my stomach has been bloated constantly. I have always had a very flat belly. I'm an 18 year old female, 5'4", and about 115-120 lbs. I cannot figure out what is causing my stomach to appear so round and full, it has never been like this in my life up until a couple months ago. I am vegetarian and usually dairy free.

I know that it's not fat gain because when I tense my ab muscles, I can feel they are just below (~1/2 inch at most) the surface of my skin. Yet when I relax my stomach it becomes very round and protrudes as if I'm a bit over 3 mos. pregnant. It's constant throughout the day and doesn't really change before/after meals.

I don't think I have IBS because I don't have constipation, diarrhea, or excess gas. I am not experiencing any pain or discomfort. I don't think that I have celiac disease either, because I've always had lots of pasta as a child with no adverse effects of any kind. Regardless, I've cut down on wheat and gluten lately, but this hasn't helped. I also doubt I have an ovarian cyst or ovarian cancer considering I'm young and in good health.

I drink lots of water (usually at least 9 glasses a day,) plus I am working out more than I was when my stomach was flat, including cardio AND core workouts which I hoped would help hold my stomach in. I don't ever drink carbonated beverages or chew gum, nor do I eat processed sugars. I'm also avoiding common foods that cause bloating like cabbage & asparagus. I'm also trying to limit my sodium intake.

What in the world could be causing this chronic bloating?? Could it be any of these things I'm eating: flax seed, chia seed, raw almonds? I do eat a good amount of beans (kidney, garbanzo, black) but these have always been a part of my diet and never caused a problem. Could mum metabolism have changed all of a sudden? I'm so confused and very frustrated. Please help!! Thank you so much.

It is no good sitting around trying to guess what is wrong, which is all we can offer here. Go and consult a good gynaecologist. Your age does not necessarily rule out an ovarian cyst, so get that checked out first. Good luck, Sera

I agree with Seraph. Maybe get tested for food allergies too. I hope you find the cause. That has to be frustrating, especially because it sounds like you're doing everything right with your health. Good for you! Let me know if you find what's wrong. If you need to talk I'm here for you!
