    How much water?

    Hi,

Can anyone tell me the optimum amount of water one is supposed to consume on a daily basis? Years ago something like 8 glasses a day was advised however now it seems that this is now deemed excessive.

    Re: How much water?

The 8 glasses a day recommendation came from a badly done study a very long time ago, on rabbits. Modern research supports findings that your thirst is reliable. Drink water appropriate to your activity and your thirst. If you are using the restroom more often than every two hours then you are probably drinking too much water.

I would only add that the climate and the weather (together with activity and thirst) also play an important role in determining how much water you should drink.

I just make sure that I always have water next to me and it becomes natural for me to reach for it. I definitely drink more than 8 glasses a day. Just drink and keep hydrating yourself. Water does a lot of wonders.

I would drink least 8 glasses a day. Crystal light would count toward your water. Because it has no caffeine .

    Re: How much water?

My doctor recommends drinking 2 litre's a day.

About a half a gallon give or take. Of course if you live in a hot climate you will need to adjust this up.

    Re: How much water?

I personally do not enjoy drinking water and would not drink more than one glass per day.
I have never liked water and have reached my late sixties with no related lack of water illness.
I do drink other drinks like tea, herbal drinks and fruit juices, my husband doesn't drink water either and he is in his seventies so one had to wonder if like many things water consumption isn't over rated and we can manage on other fluids,

I definitely agree about the area where one is living.
I live in a wet climate that is also cold in the winter months and we drink mostly hot drinks to keep warm.
When I go abroad in the summer for my holiday I drink lots of water because it is so much hotter than home and one can become dehydrated.
I know I can drink hot water but lets face it its not so tasty as a cup of tea or coffee,

    Re: How much water?

I normally drink about two quarts per day, sometimes more especially in the summer months.
