    Delay in showing weight gain or loss with diet changes

    Is there a delay between when a person changes their diet and gains or loses weight? Say during the holidays a person attends some parties and consumes a great deal of rich food, but doesn't show any weight gain. Then in mid-January, weeks after resuming their normal diet, they start to gain a pound or two a week.

    I guess it's a really individual thing. For me, it's always been the way that it'd take three solid weeks of strict dieting and lots of exercise before I'd see ANY changes at all! It was really hard to stay motivated during those three weeks until I learned that pattern about myself.

    For gaining weight, I experience the same thing. If I have a week away with a friend and eat heaps more than I should, it's usually about a week before it shows up. I've never understood that, because by then I'm back on my normal diet - eating the right amount and exercising, and out of nowhere comes on this weight from a week ago.

    It's a bit of a bugger!! :-)
