Low vitamin D

Hi,
I'm 24 years old and male.
I have urticaria with Seborrhea dermatitis.
My vitamin D level is 12.
Can vitamin d deficiency linked urticaria and Seborrhea dermatitis?

Re: Low vitamin D

Hi & welcome. I've seen low vitamin D associated with things like obesity, lack of exposure to sunlight, darker skin pigment, GI malabsorption disorders (Crohn's, Celiac, and the like), diabetes, and kidney disease... but that's not to say there aren't more that I just haven't read about...

Interestingly, I saw some articles recently stating that Vitamin D supplementation is now thought to help urticaria. For the record, I believe most doctors prescribe supplementation when your level is below 20. Has your doctor prescribed either (1) a daily supplement, often 2,000 IU's per day, or (2) a 3-month course of 50,000 IU's weekly? Those are the two ways I've seen it done. I take a daily dose (my level fell to 10 or 11 with lupus); and my husband did the megadose route when his level fell to 9 (he has diabetes).

Re urticaria, I think some people get it in conjunction with some underlying condition. One example: a thyroid disorder. Have you had all the usual labs run, to see if any other values are off, and also had ALL your symptoms considered? (Not wishing you any add'l problem, just wondering.)

I sure hope you find something that helps. While I've had plenty of rashes in my day, the few that really itched (I used to get seborrhea on my hands) drove me absolutely wild, and those steroid shots weren't so pleasant either. Let us know what happens, OK? Sending warm wishes to you, Vee

Re: Low vitamin D

Directly no.....but it is important to increase your levels for sure. Has your doc done liver enzyme blood tests?

What other health issues do you have?

What is the dosage of d3 you're taking at this point?

mine are low as well.
