Unhappy Not sure what is wrong with my stomach.

Info about me: Male, 22. Non-smoker. Non-drinker. Healthy diet. Barely "normal" weight, close to being underweight according to BMI numbers. I've had stomach issues since 5 years ago but it's been recently that it's been very random.

So I saw my doctor a while back about some stomach issues. She basically sent me away with some antacids and a blood test to be done (I think she also said it could be h. pylori, although I cant remember), although I've just been seeing how my stomach fares on the medication, which never comes in handy except when it's too late. I usually go through phases where I feel fine and can eat normal, then other times where my stomach is punishing me.

It all started a while ago when I bought some old "on sale" cheese at a supermarket. I had a little bit of it, it didn't bother me. But one morning I had it for breakfast and felt terrible all day, and my appetite plummeted for a few days. I had developed what felt like a moderate pain in my stomach, which I'd describe as feeling sharp, almost like there was a build up of pressure in my stomach. I visited the doctor the next day who thought it had something to do with stomach acid, so she proscribed me some antacids to take 30 minutes before a meal once a day. However, by the time the next morning rolled around I felt "normal" again.

Fast forward about a week or two. I have some soup with some old fish sauce (maybe too old), and midway through eating it I felt that same pain again. And thus, the next day I had no appetite. I forced myself to eat breakfast, and felt so terrible (headache, stomach) that I couldn't eat until dinner, and I could only muster a plain rice porridge.

Well, yesterday morning I felt better. And throughout the whole day I was finally able to eat normally. And today too! And now, after just having finished eaten dinner, I feel this same pressure in my stomach again, except this time I ate nothing that could have made me sick: some salad and a few slices of vegetable pizza (not the healthiest thing but I just wanted a light dinner). My stomach pain this evening was almost severe, it felt like a sharp, pressure pain below my stomach, enough to force me to sit bend over just to relieve it. I eventually felt better, but now I'm paranoid.

I don't understand this anymore. I typically eat very healthy, I don't smoke, I don't drink, I only have coffee once a day... and yet I'm having these problems which just kills my happiness and attitude. I just want to be a normal person who can eat and not have to constantly worry about my stomach after every meal. Not only do I have to worry about eating, but if I starve myself too much I'll become underweight.

Might any doctor here have any idea what is going on? Do you think this is just temporary and will go away? Something more serious? It's so hard to decide what to do since my stomach will feel fine for a few days at a time, then another few I'll feel like ****... there's no consistency to it at all.

Sorry for ranting on a little too long. If you have any idea what is wrong, I would gladly appreciate any second opinions.

Hi...i suggest you go back to your doctor and request to be referred to a gastro specialist for an upper scope.

I also suggest that you get copies of all test results and know exactly what medications you were and are on.
It's important since not all meds are the same, and not under the classification of antacids. If you were put on zantac or omeprazole or other, there are options of how to use them more effectively.

Please let us know how you're doing and if you get a referral.

There are many things that could cause this, but the sharp pain is a little more out of the ordinary. It sounds like you ate quite high fat foods when this happened (the cheese and salad dressing [assuming there was one], and pizza). If you haven't already, I'd see if you can't get your gallbladder checked out.

Also, I'd recommend not eating any more "off" foodstuff. Be very wary of expiration dates. If it's not the gallbladder and it's something bacterial in your gut, you might be adding more grease to the fire when you eat slightly "off" foodstuffs. I'm no medical expert, but it's possible you've gone and messed up the balance of good versus bad bacteria in your gut. Usually a gastroenterologist can test that via intolerance tests.
