    Scared to go to sleep

    This is getting old!!
stomach acid coming coming up in my sleep.
First time it happened, i LITERALLY thought i was having a heart attack.
Iíve tried SO MANY things!! ALL acid reducers. ALL antacid pills (rolaid, tums)
I alternate monthly from Protonix, Prilosec, nexium.
with a NIGHT time kicker of zantac, tagamet, etc..
LAST night,,!! I was determined to stop this monster!!
two tums, pepto, mylanta, and Pepsid atop my morning dose of Protonix!!!
And STILL, Iím up at 2AM unable to breathe due to ACID in my lungs!! in my Sinuses!! in my throat!
Iím LOST! Iím frustrated! iím TIRED!!
I Am not TOO over weight. 5í11Ē and 200lb
I ate a LITTLE later than i like. 6:30 pm
bed at 9. I ate a (processed) turkey sandwich and three cookies.
This is ALMOST a nightly ordeal. I do not drink alcohol. I do not do drugs. If i eat ABOUT 3.5 hrs before bed, with LITTLE food during the day, o USUALLY do ok, BUT, dang! I get hungry by the time i go to bed. So, i choose, Go to bed hungry, OR, Take my chances.
ANY KNOWLEDGE, ADVICE, EXPERIENCE, HELP would be greatly appreciated
    Thank you

Have you seen a gastroenterologist ?? Sounds like you need an appointment ASAP. Don’t try to manage this anymore on your own.
    Best of luck to you.

Hi slconine! Have you ever been tested for Insulin Resistance or Metabolic Syndrome? These maladies coupled with an inappropriate diet might shed some light on your problems.

In my case, my nightly breathing problems were caused, in part, by my Insulin Resistance. I cut back on high glycemic carbs and started a small meal, low calorie, low glycemic diet of six meals a day and my health significantly improved.

This might not make too much sense about your nasty stomach acid problems, but, when the body's handling of Insulin is dysfunctional, it really makes a mess of one's metabolism and can cause all kinds of nasty health problems.

    Hi Slconine,

I believe you're actually making things worse by taking all those acid reducers. Your problem is too much acid coming up where it doesn't belong but you need all the acid in your stomach for proper digestion. If you keep neutralizing the acid in your stomach, how do you expect to digest your food?

Of course it will be digested eventually but it will take longer. So you go to bed 2 1/2 hours after eating and your food is only partly digested.

That's only half the problem. The other half is related to your choice of foods. and your timing. Meat takes longer to digest and needs a lot of stomach acid. You should try to eat a hearty breakfast and a solid lunch so that you don't need too much protein for your evening meal.
Also, you should include some fresh fruit and vegetables.
