Terrible rectal pain! Worried! (no graphics)

Ive been having terrible rectal pain. I never had this up until 6 months ago, so its a new symptom. Its such a bad pain and causes me a lot of discomfort when it attacks. Usually I get them before, during & after bowel movements. But sometimes they're unrelated to having a bowel movement, I just get the attack for no reason. My stools are ok but I'm normally constipated. Also what worries me is I feel this warmth or burning in my rectum the whole time up until Im done going..I'm clueless as to what's causing that feeling but really worried at the same time. I keep putting off calling my GI cuz of the anxiety..

Could be anal and rectal, but your symptoms could be spasming of the rectum, including maybe a hemmie or fissure symptoms upon exit of stool.

But you say before, during and after BM...I strongly suggest you get referred to a specialist who will do a colonoscopy.

I have Ulcerative colitis, and those are definitely part of flare symptoms that I have, including constipation when inflammation is milder and limited in the rectum.

Since ur suggesting a colonoscopy, do u think it could be something more serious?

Also are bloody stools and mucus part of ulcerative colitis? Based on ur experience or what u know..

    Thanks quincy!

Yes...as well as Crohn's, C. Difficile or other invader infections, ischemic colitis, microscopic colitis, cancer... But bloody stools and severe anal/rectal pain can also happen with hemorrhoids, fissures.
Blood in stool should always be fully investigated and not assumed it's hemmies or a fissure initially. Been there, done that...wasted time.

My strong opinion is to have a colonoscopy first (not a sigmoidoscopy), which is a direct visual of the entire colon where biopsies can be done and polyps removed if there are any.

Please let me know the outcome...see a doctor soon and request referral for a c-scope.
