Pain that's driven me to immobility for 6 months

I'm a healthy, athletic woman in my thirties. Six months ago rather suddenly I started experiencing upper abdominal pain, breathing difficulty and fatigue. I've been almost bedridden ever since. When I walk, the pain worsens and especially my upper abdominal muscles tighten. There's tightness and pain if I press on that area. It makes it difficult to breathe, and I can barely walk to take out the trash due to the pain. I'm unable to work at the moment and am very worried about my future. Sometimes there's air stuck around that area and a lump feeling in my throat/chest.

There's no indication of asthma, abdominal endoscopy was clear, stomach ultrasound was clear. PPIs don't work, pain killers don't work. Heart is ok. I've been screened for allergies some years ago and don't have celiacs etc. I'm now trying the whole30 diet, but it's too soon to tell if it helps or makes things worse.

We have free-ish healthcare here, but the system is overloaded atm so no one has the time to really figure this out, it seems. It's proven very difficult to get a treatment plan for myself, and I have to rely on Google.

    Things I've wondered:
    - I started on iron supplements due to iron deficiency (low iron stores) and I ate a bunch of blood pancakes. As far as I can tell, after I'd had those pancakes, the symptoms started. They seem to make things worse, so I stopped taking back then. Iron feeds bad bacteria, so is something like SIBO a possibility? They don't test for that here. I've also eaten way too much sugar prior to this which might indicate an imbalance in my microbiome. Docs haven't taken this idea seriously.
    - I have health anxiety and I've exercised quite a bit in the past few years; possibly too much. Can this be a nervous system problem and if so, what should I do? Go to a neurologist?
    - can it be some sort of a muscular issue around my diaphragm, because the pain and tightness seem to be in that area?

I would be forever grateful, if you guys could help me out or point me in the right direction.

No, I'm pretty sure the ultrasound ruled them out. The pain is also more constant tension than stinging. It just feels like there's not enough room for me to breathe. It's difficult to explain.

Could you have gotten some kind of parasite or infection from the blood pancakes? Have you considered going to a highly rated, infection disease specialist?

Blood pancakes? Uck! How did they taste?

Just like with any muscle, it's possible to injure your diaphragm. And it's often difficult to diagnose because you might not have symptoms until weeks or months after the injury. Have you ruled that out yet?

Re: Pain that's driven me to immobility for 6 months

Hah, yeah it's a local "delicacy" which I've always hated. I thought they'd help get my iron levels up so I had some. They taste a bit like liver to me (which I also do not like).

I've actually been wondering this same thing just today. I have an appointment with my doctor in a couple of days, so I'll ask her. She's not a specialist, but might be able to refer me to one. I'm not really sure what kind of doctor would be most knowledgeable regarding parasites.

And thanks for your reply! It definitely helps to get another viewpoint on this so I appreciate it more than you know.

Hmm, interesting. I don't think I was exercising at the time though, so I doubt I've managed to cause any injury to the muscles. I'll be sure to ask about this when I see my doctor though, thanks!
