    A specific, perplexing syndrome (attack?)

    Hello all,

I only have computer access on breaks at work, so I am sorry to say I do not have time to read the 100s of pages of posts, so I am starting a thread for this. If this is on a previous thread, someone please let me know. Thanks.

My husband's problem is this: for most of his life he's had a strange syndrome all times of day or night - unrelated as far as he can tell to what's been eaten. First he gets very hot and flushed (all over), then he gets dizzy, then he developes extremely bad abdominal pains to the point where he can't even get up, the pains start lower quadrant (somewhat including stomach) and then wrap around his sides up to and including his kidneys, then his normally high level of gassenous (sp?) increases and overall he feels awful! Gradually it subsides. The best way of getting it to end he says is for him to lay on his side (can't remember which right now - think it's left side) and rock back and forth gently, then it slowly dies down. He then feels pretty much okay, it seems like he 'recovers from the attack' and then goes about his day. He is normally quite gassy throughout the day too.

Lived with it for years, finally two years ago went in because the lower abdominal pains were so excruciating he couldn't bear them (this from a man who's been burned by an acetelene torch and barely noticed). The treatment and specialists, emergency room visits and hassles would take three pages to describe - Cliff Notes version: CAT scan, stomach scope (2), colonoscopy (one cyst removed), numerous pills which screwed up his digestion so bad he cannot now digest any veggies except potatoes, squash, yams, etc., EKG tests run, halter heart monitor worn, specialists visited, more pills prescribed (including the H. Pylori $200 for 2 weeks of hell pills) - none effective.

The doctors finally decided on irritable bowel syndrome with some anxiety, the beginnings of GERD and the beginnings of diverticulosis (not the infection, just the pockets) and he's now on Alprazolam (xanax) and an acid blocker (not Prilosec although he was also on that).

However, he now is more messed up then when he went in. Still has the above described syndrome and is severely limited on what he can eat without getting pains, diarrhea, etc.
