    Post Gastroparesis

Well my husband was discovered with Diabetesís about 5 months ago and was put on two diabetic pills. Three months later on August 19, 2004 he started vomiting and was taken to the hospital nothing was found at that point. He came home and was still sick... a constant vomiting and a discomfort in the stomach and couldnít even keep down water. It took being in the hospital three times and a private doctor to say he had Gastroparesis...he has had every blood test imaginable and from Scan, ultrasound, endoscopy, and a final emptying of the stomach to confirm the diagnostic that the muscle is not working at his full capacity. I have learned that doctors donít really associate gastroparesis with diabetic. He has been put on Reglan 15mg four times a day, prevacid and insulin... also he has tried other medication like erythromycin and he still has not gotten any better...we are seeing a diabetic doctor and a stomach specialist. He is now starting to try to just drink booster plus and ensure plus and has his dosage of insulin to 20 that he started today if he doesnít get any better the doctor told me today he might have to use the feeding tube to the stomach or bypass the stomach to get his liquid nutrition so the stomach can get a rest due to the long constant vomiting he also has a bad reflex. He hasnít worked at all since this all started due to the vomiting and all he wants to do is lay in bed. He has lost a lot of pounds due to all this to. The doctor said if this does not work he would then have to see about the battery operated device is surgically implanted and emits mild electrical pulses that help control nausea and vomiting associated with gastroparesis. I have done a lot of research about gastroparesis and all the medications that are out there for this problem. If there is anyone out there that has a similar problems please let me know.

    Re: Gastroparesis

Hello - I hope it's not too late to respond to this. My husband of 3 years was diagnoised with Gastroparesis in Janurary. He is type 2 diabetic. He has the constant vomiting, nausea and stomach pain. He has been in and out of the hospital at least 6 times from january. He just got released to return to work this coming Monday. We had this same problem about 2 years ago and he was in and out of the hospital for 8 straight months and lost his job. At the time, the doctors tested him from the top of the hair on his head to the end of his toe nail and did not have a clue as to what was causing his stomach problems. Well, now that he has a diagnosis, He had the Gastric Empyting test done - he digested his food in 144 minutes. The norm is 60 to 70. We are working on a few things. First: Keeping his blood sugar at a managable level which means staying in the low 100's, eating only lean meats (chicken/fish), no raw vegies or fibers, exercising and eating 6 small meals as opposed to the 3 big ones. My husband is currently take Erythomycin and Neurontin - this drus is used for nerve pain caused by diabetes. This medication is working wonders for my husband and has improved. We also seen a pain specialits. I hope this loooong information has helped you or anyone else reading this.
