| Strange abdominal pain in navel area
Off and on for the past few weeks I have been experiencing this odd pain in my abdomen. It is a tender, burning type pain around my navel, and usually extends down into the pelvic area. Sometimes my abdomen feels tender to the touch, or will hurt if I press up against something. I'm also experiencing intermittent bloating, burping, and gas, along with some mild acid indigestion (no nausea). Bowel movements are pretty much normal (occasional mild constipation), appetite and weight have remained the same. My temperature just read 99.4 (it's usually right at 98.6). I also feel very tired and sleepy much of the time.
The abdominal pain comes and goes, but has slowly gotten worse and more frequent. Do I need to see a doc asap? Suggestions/comments would be greatly appreciated! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/confused.gif |

I would go see a Dr. It could be a number of things. If I were you I would go get checked to be on the safe side.
Best of luck.

Hi there - anytime pain is new and becomes chronic it warrants a doctor visit.
Good luck,

Thanks for your responses. The pain is still there, so guess it's off to the doctor next week.

islandgirl,
The doctor is baffled so far, he said might be GERD or might be an ulcer, or might be something else (I have a feeling that's what they all say). I had an abdominal ultrasound last week, and the results are due in tomorrow afternoon, will let you know if they found anything abnormal. I may have to go for more tests as well.
Actually, the pain and bloating just suddenly stopped a few days ago. I had made some changes to my diet and started eating more fiber, taking probiotics and drinking more water. I have no idea if all of that helped, or if the pain/bloating will be coming back again.

Shadepra: Please let me know how it turns out. I'm scheduled for a colonoscopy in a few weeks. I'll post what the Dr. tells me.

islandgirl, the results of the ultrasound were normal, nothing unusual found. I would be interested in hearing how your colonoscopy turns out--I may be having that done plus an endoscopy. I have been feeling much better lately, but who knows if that will last.
Good luck with the test.

I'm having the same symptoms you described. How are you doing now? Did you ever find out what was causing the pain and did it come back?

lorettakb, Finally found out that the navel pain is being caused by fibroids/cysts, and the other stuff is most likely intestinal flora out of balance. I'm feeling much better now since I started taking probiotics & vitamin supplements, and a heating pad helps when the navel pain flares up. Hope you find a solution to your problems.
cupidscat, thanks for the info about CHAI tea, I'll have to try it. Since I love tea, I think that will be a medicine I won't mind taking.

Shadepra, were you tested for H Pylori? I had the same symptoms as you and had an endoscope with biopsy. I have H Pylori.

No, I haven't had an endoscopy because my digestive problems have improved. But I still have the abdominal pain off and on. Do you have the same type of abdominal pain (tender, burning type pain around the navel, and extending down into the pelvic area)? Could H.Pylori cause pain in these areas?

The pain associated with H.pylori bacteria is associated with stomach area --- not really low abdomenal pain.
