Re: Fatty Liver & Pain & Symptoms I don't know if my fatty liver is causing my upset stomach or the lose of my gallbladder. I know my triglerides and my liver alt is slightly high. The doctor keeps telling me it is sphinctor of oddi that may be causing it. The liver does not have nerve ending so no pain could come from it. I get pain in the upper right rib area with alot of belching. My liver alt went down when I started to lose the weight. My sugar levels went down too but my triglerides are still 220. |
Re: Fatty Liver & Pain & Symptoms I was diagnosed with a fatty liver approximately 2 weeks ago. Well, I have had moderate to severe stomach and abdominal pain for over 5 weeks now. I had my first appointment with a GI specialist on Monday. While there, I became overheated and ended up throwing up. I remember someone mentioning that it looked like I had bile in my vomit. Whether or not this had anything to do with the fact that I have a fatty liver, I don't know. But anyway, I have to go to a local hospital next Thursday (the 29th) and have an endoscopy done to view the inside of my stomach. |
Re: Fatty Liver & Pain & Symptoms Yes, the pain is severe and don't let anyone tell you different! I have been in pain since October of last year, but was just diagnosed the beginning of this year. It scared me to death when my Dr. told me I should not be in pain because it got so bad that I couldn't breath. The good news is the pain will go away if you eat a proper diet. For me the pain was so bad that I lived off of lettuce, black beans, soybeans and rice cakes. I drank 1 cup of freshly squeezed lemon juice everyday and started taking cranberry pills. I had to quit all my vitamins, pain killers of any kind, (Advil, Tylenol, Vicodin, etc.). Pain is a huge motivator so I took advice from people who have had this for years and after 2 months now I have finally had my first day of no pain. I thought I would never get here and some people told me that the pain may never go away, which frightened me even more. My best advice is to try and burn 350 calories a day, eat 75% fresh vegetables and fruits...don't eat fat. If you are in pain I know it's hard but there is light at the end of the tunnel. This has been the worst pain in my life so I was willing to do anything. I < edited > started taking turmeric pills from my local health food market. Also, I started taking Choline/Inositol vitamins. You will start to notice what you put in your mouth is really the control factor for the pain. I took a chance with a lowfat cheese stick and 40 minutes later was paying for it in pain. Try to relax as much as possible, listen to healing affirmations etc. I really hope this helps and if I can think of anything else I will write again. |

I don't know if this is sphinctor of oddi dysfunction or the fatty liver. I am trying to find out which one it is. Some days it is really quiet and other days whatever I eat either 10 minutes or 20 minutes after I eat will bother me. I begin to belch like crazy sometimes nausea. Otherwise I get the pain in the upper right rib area. can you describe the pain like is it nausea, belching, upset stomach, muscle pain??? |

Otherwise I get the pain in the upper right rib area. can you describe the pain like is it nausea, belching, upset stomach, muscle pain???
Yes there is nausea sometimes and it does feel like muscle pain in the liver area. There are times when it aches so bad that I don't want to move. The belching has lessened and only happens if I eat something gassy. The upset stomach went away when I started taking 2 of my stomach acid pills instead of one each day, (Protonix, one in the am and one in the pm). My pain is getting less and less with each passing day as long as I do all the right things at least. I try and experiment with different foods at the start of my weekend so if the pain is severe I don't have to miss work. I see my Dr. again on May 14th and will ask about the sphincter of oddi dysfunction. Artichokes, celery, asparagus, fat free Sargento moz. sticks and the 100 calorie packs of Cheez-It's seem to help; Broccoli, fat free cheddar cheese, and olive oil makes me nauseous. Hope this helps and good luck to you. |
Re: Fatty Liver & Pain & Symptoms First...let me suggest taking 1/2 tsp of baking soda in a glass of water daily. The purpose of our organs is to keep our bodies at a neutral pH. Acid producing foods and alcohol throw our pH off. By drinking the baking soda water, your pH will restore within minutes. Don't consume more than 1 tsp of baking soda daily as it can be harmful by making your body too alkaline. You can test your urine with litmus paper to see if it is acidic. If so, baking soda is the quick fix. Now then...my mother had PBC...fatty liver. She was put on a drug made from Bear Bile. It prolonged her liver until she had a transplant...which was over 13 years ago and she's still going strong. Contact the Miami Transplant Center in Florida for more information on liver disease. I do think that the baking soda will help you. Also.....if you have ANY type of artificial sweetener in your diet...or sodas....be disciplined enough to write them off. Read up on artificial sweeteners and you'll see why. My joint paint completely disappeared when I removed them from my diet. The only time I ever suffer from joint pain now is if I consume alcohol...especially wine which contains sulfites. But the baking soda counters the acid producing alcohol....so it works. Try it. |
Re: Fatty Liver & Pain & Symptoms My GI doctor also recommended coffee. Can anyone tell me how long before the pain goes away? |
Re: Fatty Liver & Pain & Symptoms Took me 11 months of hard exercise, eating 75% raw vegetables, 1/2 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice, cranberry pills, and milk thistle every day. Do not eat any fat, stay away from meat and you will get rid of the pain soon I hope. I know it's tough but after 11 months I can now eat what I want, (in moderation of course), without pain. Good luck to you. |
Re: Fatty Liver & Pain & Symptoms Thank you for the post. I was very worried something more was wrong and didn't think there was supposed to be pain with fatty liver. You have put my mind at ease and I am going to try all the stuff you mentioned. Thanks |
Re: Fatty Liver & Pain & Symptoms Hello everyone, I am new to this site but after feeling some anxiousness about my liver I quickly decided to join and get some insight from other people. Let me just put out all of my details so someone can help me: I am a current college student(just finished my first semester) and I have been drinking for about a year and a half. I only drank occasionally before college(once every four months) but during my first semester, I found myself going out every other weekend and drinking about 5-8 drinks each weekend. I had some weird feeling in my rib cage a few weeks back but it subsided within a week. However, very recently I went to a new years eve party and drank a little too much. The next day my right rib cage started feeling 'full' after eating meals and I started feeling fatigued. Yesterday, however, I decided to go to the gym considering that I had not gone in nearly four months and the 'full' feeling, pain, and fatigue basically went down. I'm pretty sure I have fatty liver but I'm not sure if I should go to the doctor or just wait it out and see if the pain comes back. Also, if I do indeed have fatty liver, does this mean I cannot drink ever again(I am willing to do this if necessary)? And I was also wondering why I am getting this while all my friends in college drink twice as much as me and are perfectly fine? BTW I'm nineteen years old. |
Re: Fatty Liver & Pain & Symptoms I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I have had right side pain. I had my galladder removed last year. The docs did a biopsy said my liver was pristine. However I had a rough year. Drank for about three months straight. Now I feel the ruq pain and pain in my palms. My palms are also red. I think I have palmar erythma. Could this be true, recently had ct scan, blodwork, ultrasound. All are normal. Could this be cirrhosis or all In my mind. I have had 5 docs say it's not but I am paranoid. I appreciate any input. |
Re: Fatty Liver & Pain & Symptoms When in doubt see a liver specialist - I saw one and it really relieved my mind - they did a more complete blood profile to find out if I had immune problems and more. I feel better after talking to the specialist. |
Re: Fatty Liver & Pain & Symptoms
I Have been diagnoised with a fatty liver. I have not had any beer or wine in 5 weeks and still I am in pain on the right upper side of my stomach radiating to my back on both right and left sides. It seems worse wehn I sit down and is eased by standing or walking. I have been told IBS! I am also worried about my pancreas. However, has anyone with fatty liver experienced pain? And if so did it go away? How long did it take? I would appreciate any answers. My primary care says pain can be severe from fatty liver my GI does not think so. Thanks for any help or insight.
I too am experiencing the same type of pain and worry about other things going on, but everything I read seems to direct back to the fatty liver. I have been watching my diet, exercising and doing the right thing. I tried natural supplements and they seem to help. One other thing this has produced is a lot of anxiety and that is what my main problem is. You are not alone and when the doctor says there isn't any pain they are wrong the pain is intermittent and as you said when I am up and about it fades but sitting it comes back with a vengence. |
Re: Fatty Liver & Pain & Symptoms Thank you jmarple You did describe my pain exactly. Also, lately my doctor put me on Metformin. Hope it will help with my acute right pain. |
