How long does it take to empty stomach?

There are too mant variables to jut answer that. High fat content calls for longer digestion. High fiber will cause a slower emptying time.
I wish there was a standard to tell you but I don't know of any.

I don't think you can tell that. Apparently the gastric-emptying testing done has it narrowed down to "what if you eat this many calories on empty" and how long THAT might take, but wild variations such as food make-up, volume, etc, don't make anything but the standard test easy to control.

As it is, it seems that the small meal (I call it a snack) given for the test has about a t (1/2) time of 90 min, and apparently it should almost be gone at 4 hrs. Pretty long for a little egg!

kidinme can you please tell what were your symptoms before you were tested for gastroparesis??? please i am afraid i might have that too????

I was told that if more than 1/2 of the food remains after 90 minutes a diagnosis of gastroparesis is given.... my emptying time was 274 minutes not good!! but generally people will empty in 90 minutes depending what you ate, how much etc....

Like O said, normal emptying time is 30-90 minutes given empty stomach and certain amount of food. We started a thread a while ago titled gastroparesis..please share. Scan through it if you can get the time. it is long. But we have discussed many issues related to GP
