I know this has probably got to be the most bizarre problem to have, but I just wanted to see if anyone has any experience with this.
My child is 5..almost 6 years old. He has always been a 'tooter'. Just has this awesome ability to rip and roar and cut one on command. It has always been an ongoing joke and my little guy has never complained about it...he laughs along with us about it. But now that he has started KG I got to worrying that he would pass gas (yeah, poot) a lot at school and get made fun of so we coached him on the importance of waiting till you get to the bathroom to let it out.
THEN...It finally dawned on me! Why does he poot so much? Well, to my knowledge as long as he's been off the bottle...he has NEVER burped on his own!! I don't think it's because he doesn't know how (you don't "learn" how to burp, it's a natural thing, right?)...I think it's simply because he CAN'T! We have asked him to try to burp but he just can't. And he agreed with us, that he does not burp. So, yeah, instead of burping...all that trapped air gets sent down the tubes and comes out the other end.
Are there some kind of digestive disorders that will cause a person to be unable to burp? I know this is obviously not life-threatening. I hate to call the doctor and bring him in for an appt because I suddenly realized that he can't burp. I will just wait a few months until his next well check-up and mention it. But in the meantime, I'm just curious if there could be a medical reason that my child can NOT burp???
