Unhappy Pancreatitis - Very HIGH Triglycerides - Lupus?

Hello. First time poster here ... I was wondering if there was anyone out there with a simular situation or knew of anything I can try that may help.

Here is the situation:

I have had Acute Pancreatitus 3 times in the last year. The cause is my triglycerides. (I dont drink alcohol, never have been a drinker). My first attack back in August of last year my trigs were 1500! The doctor kept me at the hospital for almost a week. Then sent me home with Niacin, no follow up ... that was it. About a week later, it came back. Again I was hositalized on a liquid diet. Again was sent home with no follow up just a recommendation that I see a nutritionist. May of this year I had my last attack. My trigs were around 1100. This time, they put me on medication. Since May, I have been on a very strick low fat diet. No junk food, nothing but good fruits, veggies and boneless/skinless chicken breast. I am on Lopid 600mg 2x day, Lovastatin 40mg 1x day and Synthroid (for my thyroid). I have my blood tested every week to every other week. Even with being on this low/no fat diet and the meds, my trigs are still 800. Im so upset and frustrated. Ive been eating right, taking my meds and I still cant get them to come down. Ive lost 20lbs since July until now ... My doctor doesnt know what to do. All she can think of is raising the dose of my medications (lovastatin). I have an appointment with a specialist at Dartmouth Hitchcock (I live in NH, about half an hour from Dartmouth). But I saw a specialist there back on January and they told me I had heartburn .... (which Ive NEVER had in my life) and told me to take Nexium .... ***!? My faith in doctors is going down hill at this point. I understand its called Medical "Practice" for a reason .... Im just frustrated. I want to feel better. Im a normal 27 year old female. I dont eat junk. Im tired of feeling like crap. Of the abdominal pain, being tired all the time and so on.

Anyways - I was doing some research into family illnesses. I found out that Lupus runs in my grandfathers side of the family. I did some reading and found that there are cases (though only a few) in which Lupus was the cause of Pancreatitis. Also I found that some people with Hypothyroidism found years later that the main cause was Lupus. I also have Restless Legs, I bruise and bleed easily, I get infections easily, I get a rash sometimes on my face. Im tired ALL the time no matter how well I sleep. Im stressed and irritable all the time, and I dont want to be. I mentioned this to my Doctor today because Ive been trying to do my homework to help them figure out whats going on. She told me to bring it up at my appointment this week at Dartmouth.

I was just hoping by sharing my info ... and venting (sorry! ) that maybe someone had any ideas. Why cant I lower my trigs? Do you think Lupus might be a factor? I know it takes a long time to diagnose Lupus ... but it almost fits all my symptoms exactly. I just want answers. Im tired of feeling like crap and dancing around the issue for over a year.

Re: Pancreatitis - Very HIGH Triglycerides - Lupus?

Hi i know this pst is a little old but thought i would share my history and experience per se. I just got my first pancreatic attack. Dumb me over did the drinking about 3 weeks ago and i've been sick since. Im not a big drinker but apparently my pancreas is ****** off. I also have high trigs and cholesterol and have seen over the years being over a 1000 and they go up and down. I finally put myself on a very stict but easy diet with a lit of EXERCISE it made a huge difference i brought 800 numbers down to 300 still not good trig numbers but an achievement nonetheless. I do believe exercise was the key. Im also hypo :/ truly sucks! With all else aside the attack has me worried. Im hoping i did not do serious damage and will have a full praying. I dont have lupus so not sure where that fits in. I hope you feel better. It sure puts a negative impact on our lives right? But we just have to keep positive and keep an open support system. Feel better
