    Unhappy Diverticulitius

Recently diagnosed with diverticulitius after 3 ER visits, 2 Doctor visit, 1 ultrasound and 2 CAT scans. Started Cipro and Flagyl on Sat. I have loss 12 pounds since last Monday when I first had symptoms. Yesterday, my doctor told me to add Nexium because of the acid/gas I feel everytime I try to eat or drink. I started a soft diet yesterday of toast, tea and crackers on yesterday and today, toast, crackers, tea and a smoothie (kale, blueberries and a 1/2 banana) as my doctor said now the acid/gas is HORRIBLE!!! Please somebody help. HOW LONG DOES THIS LAST? I"m miserable. I"m hungry. Now I'm getting stabbing pains. The Nexium isn't doing anything especially since I rarely had acid reflux. Can I take gas pills? On top of this I have fibromyalgia as well so I don't know what's going on with the new muslce and stabbing muscle pains I'm getting. PLEASE HELP!!!

    Re: Diverticulitius

I've been on Nexium for several years now and it's done wonders for my LPR (reflux), but it take 3-4 weeks before you'll notice anything. I had diverticulitis about 10 years ago that almost killed me, as septic acid from my bowels spilled into my abobomen and became infected. Horrible pains in lower left abdomen, spent 5-6 days in the hospital on antibiotics. Now I may have celiac's disease as I have bloodwork in the morning, plus a colonoscopy in the near future. so we're both having issues with bowels!!

Sorry I can't be of more help, and I'm really sad to hear you going thru such a horrible time. Hang in there the best you can. Meds have come a long way to helping these things.
