"Endoscopy Throat Spray"...

I am shortly to have an Endoscopy and would like to hear from anyone who has had it (WITHOUT) the throat numbing spray. I (will have sedation)...
I have had four Endoscopy's three without spray and the last one was with spray in the throat which had an awful effect on me and made me feel like I was going to choke and unable to get my breath. Scared me to death as I am Asthmatic.
Most people I have read about seem to cope well with the spray but for me it was awful and I intend letting the medical team know this time.
Just want to know if anyone else has had a reaction to the spray!!...

I have just saw your post so hoping you have not yet had your endoscopy.I have like yourself reacted to the throat spray.I felt as though I could not breathe.I have had four endoscopies over the years and it was the first one this happened to me so I was sedated as I was in quite a state and sedated for the others also...without throat spray.I do hope you have managed to get through the test if you have already had it if not,good luck when you do and oh yes do tell the staff what has happened to you before and you would prefer them not to use the spray...

All of my Endoscopies have been under conscious sedation. I never had any throat spray with those. Never had any issues with residual sore throat either.

Now, they do use the throat spray with my 24 hr pH testing and Manometries. I don't have issues with the side effects of that spray, but the taste is really nasty. Kind of a combination of gasoline and bananas. Not that I've tasted gasoline, but you get the picture.
