Disability Determination - Doctor Review

Today I called the Disability Determination office to get the status of my case. It is now 120 days into the initial application from when they received all my info. They told me that it is currently being reviewed by a doctor in the agency. Any idea if this means anything (good or bad) or is it just a regular part of the process?

Hello...I am approaching my 120 days and have the same situation as you. My case is being reviewed also. I think it is a normal process. These boards contain very helpful info and I am hoping for an approval for you also!

Re: Disability Determination - Doctor Review

May I suggest getting an attorney for this? They usually charge 25% of any backpayments, but it is totally worth it in terms of frustration and stress reduction. It took me a total of 8 years to finally get approved for disability. The approval rate in most states is amazingly low, and usually require you to bee seen by an administrative judge to have any reasonable chance of success. In my case, the gov't required me to see additional doctors, a psychologist, and an opthamologist. (I have diplopia)
I wish you the very best of luck, but don't be disheartened if you are denied,. If you are, call an attorney, and have them file an appeal for you. that is usually what it takes, as the appeal process eventually allows a human judge to review your case

Yes I agree with the last post...Don't be down if you get denied the first go around..I filed in Feb 2011 went to their Dr and got denied in Aug 2011..I'm now in the reconsideration (appeal) stage..I've gone with an agency that specializes in SS only that was approved by my Long Term Disability Company. They get paid only if/when I get approved.. It has been soo much nicer they do all the paperwork and any dealings with SS and will go to court with me when it comes to it..
Most people get denied several times. Good luck and hope your process goes well..

Re: Disability Determination - Doctor Review

If you are only 120 days in you may be personally going to a doctor that SSD has scheduled you to see. Then about a week later you will be denied. At least thats how it happened to me. They said i was in pain and couldnt go back to work but i was not disabled. I appealed that decision received another denial letter about 120 days after that. Now I am have been waiting for my hearing since April of this year now its in the middle of October and they are saying it wont be until after the new year before my hearing. Just be prepared for a long fight and get a lawyer they can work wonders.

It may mean your file is being reviewed by an in-house doctor at the Disability Determination office. Good luck with your case and hope you get a decision soon.
