Re: Losing My Patience ...

Hi...when I was first diagnosed, it was while I was in hospital after lung surgery (1975) with a specialist who had just set up a vestibular clinic there. I was elated. Even more so that he had BPPV. Through the years, some treatment had changed, but one was to fatigue the brain by making it accept the imbalance in the canals. Same concept is as you state by not babying yourself, and to stimulate the system to maintain systems working together.

If we're assuming you have BPPV and you're having positional vertigo while sleeping ....then sleeping at that position and changing sides regularly is a good thing. The issue, however, is that you need to try and clear the crystals through canal.

I'm symptomatic as of Saturday, but had a few blips over this past month with no continual symptoms. Now is different, and Ive done the Epley a few times. It still isnt totally cleared out yet, although I felt Ok on Saturday after doing it, but not on Sunday. I was totally off all day and today was marginally better. I also have a sinus thing for 2 weeks. Trying to do all I can but I assume it's in part why I'm more symptomatic at this time. What I don't have is the walking disconnect, which I'm grateful. So it's very mild.

I looked up the Cawthorne Balance exercises. I think they're in the BPPV book, at least something like them are. I lent it to someone in the past and don't have it anymore. Thank you for that....i plan on trying them.

I relate to the anxiety....did cognitive behavioural therapy, and it helped immensely. But when the vertigo attack happens, it's no easy thing to allow it to continue. Having it for days, weeks, months, years....will definitely wear on the psyche.

thank you for the update.

Re: Losing My Patience ...

Hi! I was diagnosed last week with BPPV and put on Betahistine. I just started doing the Brandt-Daroff (?) exercises and so far no help, just dizziness, but the dr. in the video said dizziness is common with doing these exercises. When I lay down on my right side and then get up, the dizziness is worse during these exercises. So, my question is which ear is affected? I'm going to make another appt. with my GP. She told me if it didn't go away after a week to see her, but I just started exercises Wed. night. My GP didn't tell me about them. TIA for any info you can give. I also have tinnitus in my left ear. Would that be the ear affected?
