Question Can heart rate increase cause dizziness/faintness/grey outs

Hi everyone, for a few years I've had problems with dizziness upon standing. I grey out which Is where my vision dims, o get nauseated with shortness Of breath and I just feel like I'm going to pass out. With the more severe episodes I'm convinced that I would pass out if I didn't sit down. I'm 14 and they've happened at school and sent me home. They seem to happen when I'm sick or tired. They come in spells; there's periods of time where I get them every time I stand up and periods of time where I don't have them at all. I'm having some GI problems lately going to a specialist for that, but I feel worn out all the time, I randomly have days where I wake up feeling like I got hit by a Mack truck. The other day I wondered if it could be blood pressure so I did a little test. I took my bp while resting then I stood up and took it. Here's the results.
    Resting
    120/72 pulse of 81

    Standing
    128/92 pulse of 121

My.bp didn't drop it elevated some but the heart rate caught my eye. Is that much of an increase normal? Can it cause these types of problems? Thanks!

Your symptoms do sound like pre-syncope (light headed/fainting feeling) due to blood flow, rather than any other kind of problem. Here are a few things to think about:

    Do you drink enough water?

Do you drink a lot of caffeine?

Do you eat healthy enough, and often enough?

When you have GI symptoms, are you more likely to have this lightheadedness upon standing? I assume you experience diareah with your GI problems, and that often causes dehydration.

All of these can contribute to your symptoms, so pay attention to how these things effect you.

Your standing blood pressure and pulse seem a little high, but I am not the best person to help you with cardiovascular health. Someone will chine in to offer more assistance on that regard...

    hi, thanks for your reply!
i actually drink a ton of water, i get reallllllly thirsty for some reason. I usually avoid caffene because i can feel it increase my heart rate and it makes it hard to sleep. I've been working on eating habits, ive been eating more fruits and veggetables.
I've had an echocardiogram (a genetic myopathy runs in the family so i had to be tested) it was normal. I havent actually had diarrhea but im having problems with abdominal pain and nausea. Im being referred to a GI doctor for that this thursday.
I read somewhere about a disorder called POTs (postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome) and i line up with a milder form of it but not completely, becasue apparently POTs people have low blood pressure and i dont. But i line up with alot of the other problems- such as muscle weakness (my optic muscles are weak, giving me double vision, and my leg muscles get really weak when im sick.) always having no energy, and another thing that really caught my eye about it was warm environments causing pooling of blood in the legs and making symptoms worst, and 've noticed i always get bad in the shower and when i get out you can see what looks like pooling of blood in my legs. Im not really sure though. I may ask my doctor next time i see him, he might know if it could be POTs or not.

ponylover375- did the dr find out what was going on with your health?

It sounds exactly like POTS to me. I was recently diagnosed with POTS personally and I feel a lot of the symptoms that you do. There are a ton of symptoms and even the GI symptoms are part of it. As for the blood pressure, it does not necessarily have to be that low or low at all. I know some ladies who actually have high blood pressure with POTS.

I hope that you feel better soon.

    Are you really 14?

because, and i'm not trying to diagnose you but pots is really common among adolescent/teenage females. and the good thing about that is, it is most always a condition that you outgrow!!! as for me, i'm 27 and developed after having a baby, so, my outlook isn't as great, just wanted to say that.

Oh my word i only just saw your replies! Sorry im only just now replying back! I had an appendectomy on May 26th and found out i'd had appendicitis for 6 months. haha i guess im just a mystery.
Yep i am 14. I'll turn 15 in August. Lately my blood pressure has been dangerously low when standing. A couple days this week my bp was in the 60s/50s and last night it was 57/43....heart rate of 140. Not feeling too good! My doctor has refferred me to Vanderbilt. He thinks i do have pots and im going to a cardiologist at vanderbilt university in nashville on july 22...
