    Question question about echogenic focus

Hi, I am new to this board, it is great! anyone out there had a baby with echogenic focus? my daughter is 24 and they sent her to a specialist. She is having a little boy, and loves him so much already, wondering if any other signs show up during a ultrasound, my friend has a down baby and he is just so full of life, and cute as they come, she didn't have a ultrasound with him it was a while ago when she had him. my friend said she wouldn't change a thing, only if she would have known before he came she could have prepared a little. we are so looking forward to our little Brady he is due in March and no matter what we are greatful to be blessed with a child and grandchild thank you :

    Re: question about echogenic focus

    Hi there!
Has your daughter had an amnio to verify the possibility of having DS?
When I had my first ultrasound done, I was further along than expected (20 weeks) and they let me know that they found an echogenic focus and a choroid plexus cyst. These are both soft markers for DS and had me get a Level II u/s, which only verified they were there. They told me that if my baby only had one or the other marker, they may not have sent me to the specialist; they wouldn't have been worried. The echogenic focus is a calcium deposit on the heart and babies have been born with them that have otherwise been totally healthy and without DS. My doctor's daughter, in fact, had one, and is fine. They offered me an immediate amnio (since I was in a rather late stage to get one) but I refused, it wouldn't change my mind of having my daughter anyway.

Erin is now 16 months old and does have DS. She is absolutely wonderful and brings joy to everyone around her. I've already learned so much from her and plan on learning much more by watching her grow. Good luck to your daughter; I'd love to hear how everything goes.
