Pregnant and worried!

Hi,
I am 36 years old and 22 weeks pregnant. This is my second pregnancy. My afp test result was negative and couple days ago, I had my second trimester u/s. During the scan the technician told that baby was so active. Even she asked my if I had any coffee before the appointment. Anyway, after the scan we saw the doctor for the u/s results. The technician told the doctor that baby's neck was thicker. I need your experience and advice. Thanks.
P.S. Sorry for the any mistakes. English is my second language. :)

After my son was born with ds and a few years later, I was pregnet again. They requested that I have an amnio done to see if the baby is Down symdrom, I had to wait until the baby was 16 weeks, I had it done, the took fluid from the sack and tested it for many birth defects, I had found out my daughter was just fine, I must say it took allot of stress off of my husband and myself. You may want to consider that.

Re: Pregnant and worried!

I was 37 with my third child and I had a level II ultrasound and the doctor mentioned the baby had a thickness around her neck. He mentioned this is a sign of DS, but “normal” children also can have this. He also told us that she doesn’t have any other signs of DS so he would have to say she didn’t have downs. He ended up guessing wrong – she was born with downs syndrome. My point is the only test that will tell you if your baby has downs or not is an amino. If you really want to know for sure you should get the amino, if you don’t want to take the chance of miscarriage just prepare yourself. My husband and I didn’t – we went with the doctors “best guess” and were blindsided with she was born with DS. We love our daughter very much, but the shock of having a baby that was not perfect is shocking to say the least. If I had it to do over again I would prepare myself more for the possibility of a child with Down syndrome.
