tongue reduction

Hello
I was contemplating tongue reduction for my son he is now 12 years old, he has a big tongue that keeps coming out of his mouth, when he eats and drinks, it seems to me that it is too big for his mouth. The reason for thinking of reducing his tongue is for him to be more comfortable when he eats or drinks, also I was hoping that his speech would improve, he likes to talk but he is not understood a lot of the times.
I was hoping to come across a parent or specialist that has looked into this or has had this procedure done. if so please provide with as many info as possible.

thanks so much

No...stop even thinking about it. Toung reduction is a serious operation, if the the toung is causing breathing difficulties then maybe woth considering, but asides from that is cruel and inhumane. Many parents do this for cosmetic reasons only...is this worth putting your child through this

With any surgery, compication is always an issue--swallen tongue after surger is a concern.

My daughter who was born with DS, had her tongue reduction about age 3. No problems or anything.

totally disagee that it is serious operation. My 11 -year -old was eating the next morning! and I had been postponing it for three years, in which time his teeth became really crooked and entailed orthodontic care. tTake a top class surgeon and go for it,It helps breathing as well, a big issue with DS people
