Feeling food stuck on the way down

Hi all, I'm new to the foruns..
Latelly for the past maybe 2/3 months I've been experiencing that when I eat the food gets stuck on the esophagus. I don't feel it stuck on my chest, but on my back...
This symptoms started to came along with a small regurgitation of food back up to the throat and lots of burping after meal, and even at wake up in the morning. Even on plain water, sometimes I feel it coming right back up when I burp.
Sometimes I feel like I have some burning on my abdomen and some chest pain.
I also experience some acidic taste on my throat sometimes after burp.

My doctor told me to do an upper endoscopy, she said it could be some ulcer and also prescribed me some anti-acids.

Turns out the endoscopy came clear. No ulcers, no esophagus strictures, no damage at all in the digestive system.
The doctor who did the endoscopy also asked if I was a nervous person...

Any clue on this, might it be reflux or just severe case of anxiety?

So have they looked at your gall bladder or spleen? If it persists suggest they do. If you are over weight try to reduce your weight.

Re: Feeling food stuck on the way down

It's good you have nothing to block the esophagus physically, but you can have spasms in the esophagus to the point that bread or toast especially won't go down and has to come back up. This is usually caused by some inflammation in the esophagus (the spasms). So it will tighten and not allow bread/toast to go down and this happening a few times can make you anxious about eating. Make sure you chew thoroughly and take small amts into your mouth. Slippery elm powder mixed with some water heals the inflammation and puts a gel between your stomach and esophagus - worth a try. Your back pain can be indigestion. Keep a diary about which foods cause what symptons & get back to us. Good luck.

Re: Feeling food stuck on the way down

I've been having this same issue for years and years. Most of my life and there was a time where eating was scary as a kid, especially around people. I would make frequent trips to the bathroom to regurgitate the food so I can let what small particles are left go down. It's entirely embarrassing. But over the years I've learned to avoid it, basically just small bites and sips of liquid in between each bite. And to be calm, panicking just makes things worse. But sometimes it doesn't help. I've had to stop eating at by job because I don't have the luxury to run to the bathroom and regurgitate (I work at a convenience store where I can't leave the register alone).

I'm currently seeing a gastro right now for possible IBS and he just brushed this answer off. So if down the road I find anything useful I'll let you know! Good luck to you!

Re: Feeling food stuck on the way down

I have these symptoms and blame acid reflux

It helps me to thoroughly chew food before swallowing
Don't drink with meals
I have our bed on 6" blocks at the head of the bed and don't eat after 7.00pm

Re: Feeling food stuck on the way down

Drink something warm while eating. Some hot tea to relax the esophagus.

Your not alone!!
