Unhappy Pain in right side of neck

I have had this persistent annoying pain in the right side of my neck. When I press into my neck under the jaw about an inch down, it really hurts, whereas without pressing, the pain is mostly dull. I don't feel any lumps, and my throat is fine. Sometimes the pain refers up to the base of my ear, but it doesn't hurt when I press there. I feel like where I'm pressing is beside or on the artery that runs down my neck.

This pain happened once before a few months ago, and the doctor pressed around my glands, and since there was no swelling, said I was fine. Pain eventually went away, but now it's back and it is making it hard for me to sleep without taking ibuprofen. Can't be taking that every day.

Could it be a type of ear infection or something?
