Unhappy Sore throat and neck pains

Hello everyone, I've been dealing with a nagging sore throat on and off the past 4 weeks. Tonight I started to have some dull pains in the front of my throat that I've never really experienced before. It literally feels like somebody just punched me in the throat. I've been taking Pepcid 20 mg for the past couple weeks suggested by a GI specialist who examined my upper GI track with an endoscopy about 2 weeks ago on May 19th. He suggested I have GERD hence telling him I was having difficulties swallowing. He saw some scarring down my esophagus which pointed out his diagnosis... I've never really had heartburn so this antacid stuff is new to me. I've been spitting up blood every morning since I've been taking these antacids. I noticed my mouth has been much dryer than before, especially at night. I bought a humidifier, elevated my bed 6 inches on the head end, and I still spit up blood. Only after I've slept for 3-4 hours do I spit up the blood. Its definitely coming from my throat. I saw an ENT and he ran another scope up my nose and down my throat and said he saw no abnormalities besides a couple small polyps in my nose. He suggested I take a steroidal anti-inflammatory and see if they reduce, to see if that helps the bleeding? He didn't have a solution for the sore throats... Now I'm having neck pains... Could this be a virus or something serious? I'm a baby when it comes to meds, but if they don't have an appropriate diagnosis then I don't feel comfortable taking the ones they prescribe. I do still have my tonsils but the ENT said it probably wasn't them because they weren't bright red.

Re: Sore throat and neck pains

    Here are some possibilities:

Viral infection: but there will usually be fatigue with that; do you have fatigue?

Smoke exposure: Do you smoke or work around smoke?

Indoor allergens: Is there anything new in your house like carpeting or cleaning chemicals?

Strep throat: This would be an infection.

Thyroid cancer: Characterized by hoarseness, lump in neck etc. An ultra sound may possibly rule this out.

Throat caner: Difficulty swallowing, chronic cough, hoarseness

Whenever I have a sore throat, the first thing I always do is gargle with warm salt water and that usually takes care of it.

As far as bleeding, I wonder if it could be caused by excessive coughing.

I hope this will be of some help. Good luck.
