    diagnosis issue

I've been to an urgent care facility on several occasions with various issues. Every time I have been there, they give me a perfunctory exam, then say they can't find anything wrong, then refer me back to my primary care physician. The last time I went to UC, I had a earache, feeling of fullness and hearing loss. The physician then examined my ear and said there was no signs of inflammation and my ear canal was clear. As usual, suggested I make a follow-up with my PCP. I did call my PCP, but she didn't have any open appointments for a week. Meanwhile I continued to experience earache with the pain radiating to my temple and jaw (I had just been to the dentist and had x-rays, so I know he problem wasn't dental-related). When I did see my PCP she did an exam and said I might have TMJ and suggested I try an OTC NSAID. I took ibuprofen for several days with no relief. I then tried a different doctor who, after an exam, said I had otitis and prescribed eardrops. Now if I had that serious infection, why did the first two doctors fail to diagnose?

No one can answer that except them.....unfortunately, some symptome that would show externally where they can see them might not present until whatever one has gets worse. One who has the type of symptoms you have...it would be assumed initially that you have an ear infection.

I'd suggest you get referred to an ENT for a more thorough exam.

    Are the drops helping?

Exactly. I would not go to my PCP with an earache. I would head to the ENT

It is often difficult to get a quick appointment with a specialist. They are usually booked up months ahead. Meanwhile I'd be in discomfort. Even my PCP can't see me for at least a week when I call for an impromptu appt.
