    Ear Problem

Hi. 12 months ago I woke up one morning with partially blocked ear/hearing in one ear, fullness in the ear and also high pitched "squealing tinnitus. This was a devastating shock to me, as I had never previously had any ear problem in my life. I am 60yo. My GP took a quick look in my ear and he felt in was Otitis Media with Effusion and Tinnitus. I was prescribed a couple of antibiotics, steroid nasal spray and sudafed tablets, none of which improved my situation. I then purchased a Ear Popper and Otovent Nasal Balloon which also were of no use. I have been on a public hospital waiting list to see an ENT Specialist for the past 11 months. This condition, which I feel has not been diagnosed properly has turned my life into one of misery, causing me to require antidepressants. Anyone out there who may be able to offer me any advice re. my deliberating ear problem (likely diagnosis/prospects of cure) would be much appreciated.

    Hi there,

I am not sure what the source of your situation could be...but if the antibiotics didn't work, you could try anti-viral medication. Also, if you call the ENT doctor every day in the morning, you could probably get an appointment sooner when someone cancels. Best of luck to you, hang in there!
