Thanks for your response, Titchou. I may have to get used to it too if the procedure I am undergoing doesn't improve it. It's only effective 70% of the time.

    Hi Mkdandy,

I just realized I hadn't answered your earlier question. Sorry about that! My ENT does not know what caused this. I assume it was a really bad pressure headache I had a few months ago. But I actually have no idea and my ENT said there is no known cause...some people just have this, while others do not.

    Best,

    Tanya

As for me, still crackling/popping, especially my left ear but seems to have eased a little bit. I may go see my ENT again as a follow up if it doesn't clear soon.

    Hi Mkdandy,

I had the procedure on Tuesday, it was very quick and I only experienced minor pain afterward and got to go home right away... but I am a bit discouraged thus far because even though the pain from the procedure seems to be going away, I still have the crackling sounds in my ears. I called the doctor and he told me the crackling should go away within 2-3 weeks after the procedure so I am trying to maintain hope that he is right...I have my follow-up appointment on January 30th and will know more at that time. There is a chance that the procedure didn't work for me...it works in about 70% of people.

I'll keep you updated and please do the same. Hope you're feeling better soon

    Tanya

2-3 weeks is quite a bit of time to try to be patient. I hope it works for you!

    Hi Mkdandy,
How are you doing? Has your situation improved?

My ears have improved a bit but not quite as much as I was hoping. I went to see the doctor for my check-up and he told me it actually takes 6-8 weeks for the results. It's now been longer than that and I am still hearing the crackling noises in my ears...they are less frequent and seem to be less loud so bothering me less now though. I am glad its improved but was hoping for a more dramatic result...or things to go back to the way they used to be. I have another follow up appointment with the ear doctor next week. I will write another update at that time.

I hope all is well with you,

    Tanya

    Re: Ears won't stop crackling

    Hello Everyone,
I just wanted to chime in since symptoms described are exactly what I had a year ago before being diagnosed with TMJ. TMJ is a disorder of the jaw joints. It took forever for me to be properly diagnosed since my symptoms were only in my ears. At that time my jaw didn't hurt, lock, or pop. I had constantly clogged ears along with the crackling feeling. ENT's would look in my ear and say they looked fine. I was eventually seen by an ENT that told me that most of the time, when you have issues with the ears and no infection is present, next step is to rule of TMJ. The jaw joint is in very close proximity to the ears which is why is causes so many ear problems. I hope that none of you have this because it is a horrible disorder that is difficult and expensive (not covered by insurance) disorder to treat. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions

    Re: Ears won't stop crackling

Hi Tanyatanya, sorry to hear that your ears haven't improved that much but a little is better than nothing or getting worse right? I'm still in the same situation...left ear popping and right ear, crackling and still under the care of an upper cervical chiropractor as I don't want to go the TMJ route just yet.

Thanks CrisV for chiming in. This is something to keep in mind. Have your treatments helped you though? With a TMJ specialist?
