    Odd, but short ear pain

Ok so, I'm on a prescription medicine (amoxicillin for sinus) and have to take these giant pills. I just split them in half (Yes, I was granted permission by my doctor). I swallowed the first half with ease, but as soon as I swallowed the second half, I got this sudden ache in my left ear. It went away after a few seconds, but I'm curious as to what it was and if I should seek out any help.

It's probably one of two things.....the sharp edge of the split pill touched a nerve on the side of the throat and it referred pain to the ear, or it was a fast pressure change in your eustachian tube when you swallowed caused by infected/blocked sinus and not smooth air flow.

I'm assuming the reason you can't swallow a large pill is because of tension in the throat area or gag reflex....so make sure you take a bit of water first before you take the pill, with a large enough amount of water.

I wouldn't say its a life threatening event.

Hope the antibiotics work well for you.

    Quincy

Thank you for the response and information Quincy. I have another question that involves the antibiotics. I've also noticed that when taking the 2nd half, I always have a bit of difficulty. But I'm wondering if it may be because I'm taking it immediately after swallowing the first half. I'm worried that if I wait for even a minute to take the 2nd half, the pill will lose it's ability/usefulness. So in short, am I able to wait a few minutes (perhaps 3 or so?) to take the 2nd half? Or is that question I should consult my doctor about?

    Re: Quincy

Hi....no problem at all to take the second one within that time. It'll still get into your bloodstream as it breaks down without issues.
