    Persistent Pain When Swallowing

Hi HealthBoardians -- For the last 10 days or so, I have had a persistent pain in my throat primarily when swallowing, quite low down in my throat. I've never really had anything like it, and when it didn't go away, I went to my primary care doctor who, as usual, prescribed things like claritin, motrin, salt gargling, hot tea with ginger/honey/lemon and losenges. I do have some allergies and that's what she decided it likely was -- I did a strep culture in the office and it was negative and I have no other symptoms. She said there is some redness in my throat.

I remember exactly when it started -- last Wednesday I felt a pain with the first swallow of breakfast and it hasn't really gone away since. With my health anxiety, my mind goes to all the scary places. Does anyone have any input? Thanks!
