    Persistent halitosis ruining my life

I am a 23 year old male suffering from persistent halitosis and I would like your advice. My sister notified me of this problem in my early teens, and the problem hasn't subsided. My dental hygiene is confirmed (by my dentist) to be perfect, and I brush twice and floss daily. My biggest suspicion are my tonsils. I have tiny, cryptic tonsils with small holes which sometimes have tonsil stones in them. To combat this, I gargle with warm salt water every night and try to pick any stones out. Since starting this routine, I have had a significant reduction in tonsil stone appearance, and rarely see them embedded in my tonsils. Upon consulting my ENT about my halitosis, he recommended that I have my tonsils removed IF I am certain they are the culprit. He also sent a camera down my throat to check for inflammation and the possibility of reflux, but my throat was fine.

This is my dilemma. I am NOT 100% sure that I have tonsil stones because of my routine and the fact that I rarely see them. I do understand that they may be hiding deeper in the holes, but I am not prepared to undergo a tonsillectomy based on this conjecture, especially as I have read that adult tonsillectomies are excruciating. As a side note, when I perform the "lick test" (licking the back of your hand and smelling it) I get a sour kind of smell, which is different to the obnoxious, pungent smell of tonsil stones.

Does anybody have any idea what could be causing my halitosis? These should be the best years of my life but I feel dejected and unable to confidently socialise. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

    Hi,

Nice to meet u here.. Sorry if my english quite bad.. Just like you, i have a bad breath.. I'm 27 years old.. This halitosis really kills my life.. To make it short, there is a problem at your palatine tonsils right? So tonsils stones keep occurring at that place? What about your lingual tonsils?

    Dear noname,

I think you need to research how to change your diet as bad breath is indicative of an unhealthy gut. It's all connected. What is your diet like?
