Persistent pain in throat on the right side

Help! It is going into the 4th week now and I am very tired at this point. Has anyone experienced similar symptoms?
So, about 3 weeks ago, when I swallowed, I felt a brief sharp pain on the right side. That day I felt it a few more times, but was not bothered for the rest of the week, until I slept near an open window.
Then it started to get itchy there at first, and I lost voice a little bit. In the next few days, the whole half of my neck got very painful. Nodes under my jaw hurt like heck, I think all nodes on the right side became involved, including colarbone and armpit. I noticed a slight asymmetry in my neck line, but I am not sure. No one else sees it, including the close ones. The pain also irradiated along the nerves. I developed a mild fever.
A week later, following Dr. Google's advice, I went to see a specialist. I told her that I might be at higher risk for hpv infection. She examined my throat and said that it was a little red. I pushed my tongue as far as I could so she could also see parts of my lingual tonsils. Anyway, she said it was likely a virus and prescribed benzydamine. I started using it the same day, of course, and it did numb everything quite well. Next day in the morning, I noticed a rather unpleasant sweet-ish odor coming from somewhere on the right side. And again next day, and that was it for now. Over that week, lymph nodes stopped to hurt, and the pain became relatively tolerable. But it never went away. I also noticed that chewing fresh garlic helps helped with the pain a little.
Right now, there are to parts to the pain. One is the dull and tender inflamed feeling, and the other one is sharp and itchy, localized, that is felt when I swallow sometimes. I keep inspecting my throat with flash light, but I see no changes. I had an episode of extreme weakness with mild fever today, thought I would collapse. I am going back to the doctor to discuss the situation.
So, please share your experiences!
