Throat closing up, affecting breathing

Over the last several days, I've noticed a problem with my breathing where my throat sort of closes up and makes it hard to breathe. What happens in my throat is exactly the same as when you inhale while closing your throat in order to make a "snoring" sound. It happens at random times during the day, and has me concerned. I don't know if this would be a tonsil issue since I've never had mine removed when I was younger. I'm 46 now.

I could also mention something else I've noticed over a longer period of time. I mention it because it also involves the throat and might even be related. When I turn my head from side to side, my adam's apple sometimes makes a dull "click" as if something's different than usual. Before my throat problem, I just chalked it up to me getting older, but now I'm wondering if the two problems might be related.

Anyone have an idea what the cause of these 2 things are--mainly the first one?
