MRSA caused Post Nasal Drip

I have had post nasal drip for 5 years and I recently got a swab that said I had MRSA. Has anyone had this before?

Re: MRSA caused Post Nasal Drip

I had high count staph from a swab, but my doc didn't claim it to be MRSA. What med are you on for it now? I was put on Bactroban (mupirocin) topical applied in both nostrils twice daily for 20 days.

Re: MRSA caused Post Nasal Drip

They put me on Doxycycline and Bactroban for 14 days. Did you just recently start taking the medicine?

Re: MRSA caused Post Nasal Drip

I used it about a year ago and then again when I got a sinus infection. Helped a lot!
It was swabbed after that and no abnormal reading. Apparently, we carry staph in our noses, but it's the overproliferation that caused the med rx.

I have something sinus going on now....but haven't used the bactroban.

I do get sores in my nose....don't know if it's autoimmune or other. The dermo did the swab, but because I have other skin issues, she's been a pill regarding actual diagnosis and treatment of that because I pick. I'm labelled as causing said problems...I'll be requesting an ENT appointment through my GP, and will be seeing another dermo in March (sigh).

How are you doing on the meds....is the doxy systemic? If yes....I suggest you take probiotics as to not upset the floral balance in your gut.

Re: MRSA caused Post Nasal Drip

I suggest you request another swab a bit after your course of abx.
I started the bactroban today and will use it for 10....this sinus thing isn't going away. When I see my doc in Oct, I'll request a swab again.

Keep us posted how you're doing.
